Social Media

Overview

Our hope at Cross City is that social media will be used for social ministry. We want to create safe, encouraging spaces for community to be built and people to be loved! Below are tools and guidelines that will help effectively minister online.

OUR VOICE AND LOOK

VOICE

  • The voice we use on social media is incredibly important! We should always be friendly and warm. We should always be gracious and kind. We should always ask questions and be engaging. We should share God’s truth.
  • Remember, less is more! Always be concise and to the point. People value their time and we do not want to waste it.

LOOK

  • There should be alignment across all of our social media accounts when it comes to our look.
  • Profile photos should be a simple Cross City logo icon.
  • Cover photos can change depending on series/event but must be graphics approved by the minister of Art and Design, high resolution and correctly sized for headers. (Facebook headers should be 820 pixels x 312 pixels)

FACEBOOK GROUPS

Facebook groups are all about community! They should be an extension of our existing ministries. They should be a place for everyone who is part of Cross City Church to come, be prayed for, celebrated, and loved.

  • Cross City Church Groups should be closed group. Closed groups create a safety net to keep out trolls and keep in sensitive content. Members should feel that the group is a safe space to feel vulnerable and REAL.
  • Members should be able to post within the group but the post should be approved by an Admin. Posts that push political agendas, are used for sales/donations, or are hurtful/aggressive should not be allowed within the group.
  • There are a lot of ways to grow your group! You can invite people from existing pages, personal accounts, give out handouts or use digital signage.

INSTAGRAM AND TWITTER

Instagram and Twitter are great tools to grow and share about events and things happening in your ministry!

  • Remember, we are about people! Tell stories, talk about how events add value to people’s life, use quotes to promote.
  • Using photos instead of graphics feels a lot more personal.
  • Instagram Stories are a fun way to capture an event or give behind the scenes look at your ministry
  • Using hashtags on Instagram and Twitter are a good way to catalog an event (#kidzkraze2019) or series (#crosscitymoments)

FREQUENCY AND STRATEGY

Cross City Posting Schedule

  • We should be posting on any social network 6-10 times a week
  • Following a system or schedule helps in planning out your social post.
Example:
  • Sunday – Livestream with links to take next steps, Instagram stories, Instagram post, Facebook post with quote/photos, live tweets (quotes/points)
  • Monday – Sermon video clip with link to message online/audio
  • Tues/Wed/Thurs – Post that move people. Humanize Cross City and the Staff. Add Value to people. Tell STORIES
  • Friday/Saturday – Push for attendance on Sunday

Facebook Groups

  • Admins/moderators should post at least 6 times per week.
  • Content Should be 80% inspirational/relational and 20% event specific
  • Post about events should be less about the event itself and more about the value it adds to someones life
  • Graphics that are used in post must meet the Cross City Brand Guidelines and be approved by the Minister of Art and Design
  • Be overly kind
  • Always over communicate
  • Respond to each question, prayer request, praise, or any communication in a timely manner. People shouldn’t wait more than 24 hours to hear from us.
  • Hide or delete aggressive or hurtful comments quickly. Then, handle the issue relationally. Direct message the person and see what is going on.

Instagram and Twitter

  • The majority content posted to Facebook can also be Instagram and Twitter.
  • As well as your normal post, leverage instagram stories to talk about events and stories!
